I took Boo to the doctor this morning to get his stitches out.
I told him about the horrendous experience Boo had had getting them put in and asked him if it was possible that Boo was simply immune to local anaesthetics.
Apparently not.
Apparently there is a particular way of injecting them into the wound to ensure that it actually goes in. That way was NOT used by the emergency room doctor. In fact, when I was watching her injecting the anaesthetic into the wound I asked her about the huge amount of it pouring down his face. She told me that it wouldn't make a difference. Grrr.
And apparently you should wait a few minutes before stitching in order to allow the local anaesthetic to do its job. Our emergency room doctor barely paused.
Poor Boo. No wonder he was in such agony.
Our doctor also said that the tetanus shots that he received at the hospital were unnecessary.. and actually useless in this particular situation (he fell on wood... not rusty metal).
Ah well. The stitches are out. The wound looks fine.... healing nicely. Thanks for all your kind words and sympathy.
We've got court-ordered family counselling at the Family Court in the morning.
*Gulp*.
ALL of us. There. Together.

Oh poor Boo. No wonder it hurt so much. Sometimes doctors are worse than useless.
Wow, that's going to be quite the experience tomorrow. Good luck, keep calm and breathe. Do not let him get to you.
Great news that Boo is healing well. Not so great news that the doctor has probably traumatised him and you for life. I'd complain to the hospital's Customer Service Unit - an apology is definately warranted!
The thought of family counselling sent shivers down my spine. I hope it is not too unpleasant for you and the boys (but very unpleasant for DH)! Good Luck xxx
Good luck Fe, I'll be thinking of you all.
Can you believe my baby is turning 7 tomorrow?!!
I'll be thinking of you all tomorrow. Hope it's as painless as it can be.
And I'm glad Boo's on the mend although the no anasthestic story gives me chills. Poor Boo. :(
That makes me so mad.
I hate when I'm given more evidence of why we can't put our trusts in doctors.
Poor Boo : (
But glad he's doing better.
Oh poor baby! Bad had 6 stitches above his eye last summer (at 18 mos old) and it was awful, but at least the doctor was awesome. They gave him a sedative through IV as opposed to a local anaesthetic, and stopped halfway through to give him more. We were told to buy vitamin E capsules, and pierce them with a pin and squeeze it onto the scar for the whole summer. And make sure that it's protected from the sun for months....we were told to use zinc oxide. Good luck tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you!
How did it go on Thursday?
Poor kid. It's horrible enough getting stitches (so my kids tell me) without feeling everything that is going on....
Poor Boo, how dare that Dr traumatise him like that for no good reason! Hope all went well yesterday.
OH Fe! Poor you and poor Bo! I have a nerve anomly that does make it almost impossible to anesthetic me for stitches, etc--he may have what I have. Poor baby. Sending you all hugs-hope it went well yesterday.
