My parents took me along to see a matinee play at the Sydney Theatre Company as one of their friends dropped out at the last minute. The play was called "Rabbit" and was written by a new young British playwright called Nina Raine... apparently hugely successful in the UK, but it did nothing for me.
Still, I love going to the Wharf Theatre. It's in an old wharf and although the inside has been re-done entirely, they've kept the outside exactly as it was when built in 1831. There's a long walk to the restaurant at the end (and the theatre) and I took advantage of the slow pace set by my parents and their friend to take some piccies...
This walkway is hung with amazing black and white photographs of past Sydney Theatre Company productions. Many of the pics include Aussie actors who went on to become major international stars.... Mel Gibson, Hugo Weaving (yeah... I know he's really a kiwi) and Rosie Byrne to name a few. Some of you might know that "our Cate" and her husband Andrew Upton have taken over as the Artistic Directors of the Company. Very exciting....

My Mum and I feel like we "discovered" Cate. We saw her in many Sydney Theatre Productions before she was a film actress and always said "Isn't she wonderful!! She will be a HUGE star!". So we're glad she's coming back so that we can feel snuggly and proprietorial when we see her perform (!)
One of the loveliest things about this theatre is the wonderful cafe and restaurant at the end of the pier, where you can enjoy a fabulous glass of white wine....

..... while you're soaking up the view...

Makes missing Toto and Boo just that little bit more bearable.

Its always nice to get in a bit of kultcha. I would go just to see the Wharf Theatre it looks fantastic.
Hope you manage to squeeze in a few other things for yourself to make it that bit more bearable without Toto and Boo.

hello there ... these weekends must be hell for you - I am sooo glad you have your ma and pa right there.
Lovely pics - you clever cookie - le xoxo
The photos are lovely and I'm glad you're able to get out and do some things for yourself while the boys are away. xxxxx
These pictures are fantastic. Also, I couldn't help but giggle at "kultcha".
Mark and I bought cheap tickets to see Rabbit next year after our week of culture - I was hoping that it would be good with a name like that!
And while you were at the wharf being all high end, I was at a Sydney Uni Bar watching Gurlesque!
I'm guessing the boys are coming back tonight, but if not, there's an Indian banquet on at Fairylands (our new name for Merrylands).
Thanks everyone... the pics were taken with my NEW little point 'n shoot (courtesy of altitude credit card points - I love a freebie!). I'm quite happy with it!
Oh La! We would have loved to, but the boys are coming back this evening at around 7.30. I've got them next weekend, and a Sunday night would be ideal... actually we should probably wait until school hols so that we can stay a bit later and play mahjong.
I've just come home from a big supermarket shop. I HATE going on a weekend ... it always takes twice as long... but I had to get stuff for tomorrow's brekky and school lunch for the boys. Am now shattered!
You may well LOVE Rabbit. My parents enjoyed it. It was certainly well done... good casting... my dislike was more about the script than the production.
And there are no bunnies at all. Sorry. xoxo
I do love the wharf theatre. Must renew my STC subs...
