This is the first time I've been glued to an American Election....

.... and I've found it fascinating.

I'm thrilled with the (almost announced) outcome.

Well done, my American friends. The world will embrace you for rejecting a party of warmongers and women-haters (and before you comment .... Sarah Palin is the most token woman I have ever seen in my life). And, if Obama follows through with his promises and ends the war in Iraq, I will lift my embargo upon all things made in America (which I've had since the war began) (and which had to exclude all things Mac. Sorry.) I'll also leave the airport next time I have a stop-over in your country (and will not make my lovely American friends travel to said airport to hang out with me).

Oh, and if my share portfolio happens to recover slightly due to world confidence in your new Democratic President, I will do a Big Happy Dance. On YouTube. Promise.

I have a 10yo who is glued to the election...

Looking forward to the you tube dance.

Did that include Vegemite???

Although I think that's made in Australia. But the company is American.

We're totally glued to this election. I don't remember ever being this obsessed. My seven-year-old son is obsessed.

It's very exciting.

I'm impressed you managed a boycott. I'm terrible at it. I tried to boycott Nestle for awhile, but I failed. I should really go back to that.

I have a boycott! King Island products. VERRRY hard to maintain :(
Also looking forward to the happy dance

I'm a Promite kids. Which (fingers crossed) is still Australian owned (please don't tell me if it isn't!! there are some things I just can't give up)

It was pretty hard, but managable most of the time. My boys didn't like it though.

I wish I could say I made the choice to let Amy sit up with me on the couch to watch the election today, but no, she made the decision herself by not wanting to nap. Still, we shared a momentous occasion together and wow, what a day! I will tell her about it when she is older!

There's also Aussie-mite.

Have you tried that before??

http://www.aussiemite.com.au/buy.html

I'm pretty sure Promite isn't made by an American company.

Tim Tams are though....I think. It's owned by the Campbell Soup Company

Uh, looked it up. Bad news about Promite, I think. If I'm reading it correctly. But Obama is president now, so that's good.

Weet-Bix. That's still Australian.

Australia needs to buy back all their food companies!!!

I had that sinking feeling about Promite. It was invented by Masterfoods, which was an Australian company started by two men who went to school with my Dad. But, like so many other successful Australian companies, (Arnotts, Speedo etc etc) we have sold it to an American Conglomerate.

Aussie-Mite, which is made by an Aussie Icon named "Dick Smith", just doesn't cut it. His whole company is "fighting back" and helping to give Aussies Australian purchasing options.

The boys and I buy a lot of their products, but Promite and Nutella just need to be the real things. Sorry.

But.... I can eat anything I want now!! (Umm... except that I try to eat locally produced food only anyway)... IF Obama gets you guys out of the middle-east.

Yippeee!

I will have to join war protests.

My sign will say

"Stop the War so Fe can eat Promite!!"

I'm really tired of big American corporations. It's getting old.

Fe said...

Awwww Dina. That just might be the nicest thing anyone has ever offered to do for me!

I know what you mean about big corporations... but they're not limited to American ones (you guys just have more of them, and richer ones, than the rest of us)

That's why I loved Wall-E. Such a great message about Large corporations ruining our world.

For me it was ALL about Palin - horror horror horror - thrilled she is not going to get a look in. W has handed the Dems a country in strife - given the change in govt I am certain flushing out Capital Hill will make an immediate difference. Wishing Barack well in turning the tables. At least he has good reference on how 'not to run a world power"!! J

PS: duplicate post - went to the wrong link!

I would like to see that happy dance!

Great result, great speeches. Altogether stirring stuff.

Promite might be OWNED by a US conglomerate, but it's made in Australia (NSW). Phew. That at least fits in with my trying to eat locally. Even if it breaks all my other rules!

Isn't it glorious! The U.S. has a president-elect who is intelligent and worldly. I have been catching up on the blog. I didn't know you had gone on a whirlwind work trip.

Hi Wen! That's why I didn't know about your surgery. Hope you're feeling okay now.

Notice that I promise that you won't have to go to LAX to meet me now... I'll organise a proper visit (IF Obama gets the troops out of Iraq... and sorts out Afghanistan) xxx
